The recently retired QB dished out some advice to the newly drafted RB out of Oklahoma.

One of the top storylines of the 2017 NFL Draft was focused around Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon, and it unfortunately was not for positive reasons. As exceptional of a prospect as Mixon is, his name was often mentioned among draft pundits solely because of a highly disgusting act a few years back. Mixon was seen striking a woman down on a security tape. The back wound up missing the entire 2014 college football season as a result of his actions.

Although his ill-advised decisions were entirely different, Michael Vick also made a crucial mistake in his career. It led to a few years in prison, and the interruption of a soaring NFL career. Vick was asked about Mixon at a charity golf event Monday, and he made it clear that he is a fortunate young man.

“Joe got an opportunity. He’s an exceptional talent. Other than that, he [wouldn’t] get that opportunity. I think he’s learned from it and hopefully he’s humbled by what’s happened to him,” Vick said.

Vick has obviously been in a similar situation where the public was against him and he clearly had messed up. As electrifying of a player as he was at the quarterback position, when people mention Michael Vick, they cannot help but think of the dogfighting incident. It is unfortunate, but it is the way our world works.

We can only hope Joe Mixon is listening. Drafted in the second round by Cincinnati, Mixon needs to do right by the organization who has given him another shot. There is no doubt that he committed a horrendous act, and for that, some believe he shouldn’t be allowed to pursue an NFL career. All Mixon can do is look forward and become a better man starting today.
