Martin Truex Jr. survived a bunch of late cautions and restarts to win the 2017 Go Bowling 400 at Kansas.

After the madness that is Talladega, the following race at Kansas typically offers a little bit more mellow racing. That wasn’t the case on Saturday night, as the 2017 Go Bowling 400 turned into a demolition derby on the track. It was an evening that started under the sun but ended under the lights and in a completely different narrative. Martin Truex Jr. proved to be the fastest in the end.

After Kyle Busch and Ryan Blaney took the first two stages of what appeared to be an event-free race, the final segment proved to be so much more different. A violent wreck that ended with Aric Almirola being transported to the hospital overshadowed the Go Bowling 400.

As Joey Logano had a part break and he got into the back of Danica Patrick, the two engaged in a wreck at 200 mph, that ultimately turned into a fiery blaze. Nowhere near the duo, Almirola wasn’t able to move his car and he drove straight into them at full speed.

Unable to get him out of his car, medical crews and NASCAR officials had to cut him out of his car. He was immediately stretchered off the track and taken to a hospital. The drivers certainly were more concerned with his safety than the race at that point.

In the end, Blaney and Busch just didn’t have the burst to ever give Truex Jr. a true run for the victory. With Truex Jr. redeeming himself after last year’s tough loss at Kansas, here are the complete results for the Go Bowling 400.
