Kawhi Leonard went down today with an ankle injury, which gave way for the Warriors’ comeback victory. Leonard’s status is questionable for Game 2.

Fans in San Antonio should be very worried right now. The panic meter in the Alamo should be sky-high after their Game 1 loss. It isn’t even the fact the Spurs dropped Game 1 after being up by as much as 25 points, they might have lost their best player, Kawhi Leonard, for more than just today.

After the game, Leonard reportedly had his ankle taped up but was optimistic that he’d be able to participate in Game 2 on Tuesday. However, it seems like the Spurs are beginning to worry about the superstar’s ankle. Leonard will get an MRI on his ankle tomorrow morning, according to ESPN’s Michael Wright.

The injury first occurred in Game 5 against Houston, when Leonard rolled the ankle. He missed the rest of that game and Game 6 when the Spurs clinched a spot in the West Finals. It was re-aggravated today when Leonard landed on Zaza Pachulia after a missed jump shot. Pachulia was called for a foul on the play, but it was the turning point in the game as the Warriors went on an 18-0 run and overcame a 23-point deficit in the third quarter to win.

He tried to play on it but immediately motioned to be taken out of the game. He didn’t even return to the bench, heading straight into the locker room with the Spurs’ trainer. San Antonio was up 78-55 at the time of Leonard’s departure, but couldn’t hold onto the lead.

The Warriors took full advantage of Leonard’s absence and won the game, 113-111. Leonard’s status is up in the air for Game 2 with this scheduled MRI on Monday morning. For the Spurs sake, they better hope Leonard suits up for Game 2, otherwise, it could get real ugly, real fast.
