Ondrej Kase’s rebound goal tied the NHL Playoffs Western Conference Finals game 1 between the Anaheim Ducks and the Nashville Predators.

The first game of the NHL playoffs western conference finals was filled with excitement. The sixth goal of the game came from Ondrej Kase from close range. Ondrej Kase’s goal came on his third shot on goal of the game. This score marks the Czech Republic’s first career playoff goal. The  was assisted by Shea Theodore and Josh Manson.

The goal, scored halfway through the second period, hit off of Pekka Rinne’s skate and slowly slid into the goal. Originally, the goal’s legitimacy was doubted, but upon further review the puck clearly fully passed the line.

Kase’s goal came in the middle of an ideal period for the Ducks. In total, they scored three goals in the period and gave up just one. Anaheim opened the scoring with a goal from Jakob Silfverberg to tie the score at two. Silfverberg’s goal was his 9th of the NHL playoffs, tying him for most in the league.

Later in the period, a slap shot from Nick Ritchie gave the Anaheim Ducks a 4-3 lead. Rinne should have been able to stop this long-range transition shot. The second period ended with the Predators still down one goal.

Through two periods, Pekka Rinne had already given up more goals than he had in any game in the 2017 NHL playoffs. Needless to say, the Ducks played impressively in this game. They, also, thrashed the Predators confidence on defense.

The Predators have been dominant so far in the NHL playoffs. They swept the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round and didn’t miss a beat on their way to the conference finals. However, this performance from the Anaheim Ducks through two periods makes it clear that they won’t go down easily.
