Nicklas Backstrom and William Nylander made Denmark look silly with a ridiculous give and go goal.

The IIHF World Championship is an underrated hockey tournament. It’s a great time to see players play together who usually don’t get the chance to. Sometimes, it can be very special. Such is the case with Swedish forwards Nicklas Backstrom of the Washington Capitals and William Nylander of the Toronto Maple Leafs. They are each incredibly skilled players with high hockey IQs. The duo looked like the Harlem Globetrotters against Denmark, combining for an epic give and go goal.

Obviously, Nylander makes this goal happen. His puck handling and skating ability, combined with his hockey IQ, make him almost impossible to cover. When you put Nylander with someone like Backstrom, magic is bound to happen.

The two already have amazing chemistry. And it shouldn’t be too surprising. Backstrom and Nylander go back a little ways. Back when the former was just starting with the Capitals, the team had another Swedish player by the name of Michael Nylander. William is his son. Backstrom would join the Nylanders for meals regularly, so he and the Leafs forward got to hang out quite a bit. They share a close friendship.

Sadly, the IIHF World Championships might be one of the very few times fans get to see the duo together. Especially with the NHL likely not going to the 2018 Olympics. This is why not going to the Olympics is a bad move from the league. They get a chance to grow their sport internationally by sending their top players. Everyone wins. But instead, owners are too worried about not getting paid immediate benefits. They’re completely ignoring they’ll get future benefits.

Nylander and Backstrom have amazing chemistry. It’s a darn shame they won’t get the chance to play tgether too often.
