Terry Francona went for the jugular in an attempt to troll Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash.

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona has a reputation for having one of the best senses of humor in the big leagues. That humor has been put to good use over a 17-year managerial career that has produced two World Series titles and seven trips to the playoffs. He also helped launch the managerial career of Kevin Cash of the Tampa Bay Rays, who was previously Francona’s bullpen coach in Cleveland.

With the Rays visiting the Tribe in Cleveland for a series, Francona had a little something planned for Cash’s arrival. He took control of the massive video board in left field to display some facts about Cash’s career as a hitter.

Cash, who spent eight years in the big leagues as a backup catcher, was notoriously bad with the bat. One picture says a thousand words when it comes to describing a hitter who was worse than the average pitcher over 714 MLB plate appearances.

Quite a low blow from Francona if you ask me! Cash may not have been very good with the bat in the major leagues, but he still got there and did manage to hit 12 home runs. This little troll job is a bit of a pot-calling-the-kettle-black situation. Francona played 10 years in the big leagues and posted a modest .652 OPS. Cash was worth -3.0 WAR for his career, while Francona checks in at -2.8 WAR.

Cash is now in his third year managing the Rays. He has a career record of 167-197 at the helm, but has received good reviews of his ability to manage a clubhouse. Cash is 3-10 against Francona and the Indians over the past two seasons, and will be hoping to turn things around with a series victory this week.
