MLB trade rumors: 5 moves the Cubs should consider
2. Crosstown trade?
Could the Chicago Cubs find their pitching answer on the south side of town? It is possible, but will be difficult to pull off. Still, it would be worth a call.
The Cubs need another starter, and the Chicago White Sox have options. While the White Sox are not out of the race yet, it is easy to see how difficult the road to win will be. When July gets here, they will be sellers. And there is one pitcher that the Cubs should ask about. And that is….
Derek Holland.
Here are the reasons: he is left-handed, on a one year contract, is performing well in 2017. That could change, but to this point, Holland is leading the White Sox rotation in ERA and WHIP. In 40 2/3 innings, he has allowed 16 walks. That would compare well to the current Cubs rotation. Plus, in all but two outings, Holland has pitched six innings. When he didn’t, the team allowed errors to let teams score 5 unearned runs in each.
What would it take? Infield help. Ian Happ would be ideal for the White Sox, and would fit at second base easily. But, that may not be all the Cubs can offer, or would they would give up. Victor Caratini is simply raking in Triple-A, and the White Sox need a catcher. Could the teams pull off a cross town trade?
