Tottenham guaranteed themselves a second-place finish in the Premier League table after defeating Manchester United in the final game at White Hart Lane. Defending champions Leicester are in the middle of the table after losing to Manchester City on the weekend.
Victor Wanyama opened the scoring for Tottenham on Sunday with a powerful header in the sixth minute. Three minutes into the second half, Harry Kane converted a cross to give Spurs a 2-0 win. Despite having more chances than United, Tottenham could not score the third goal. Wayne Rooney cut the lead in half with a goal in the 71st minute. However, United could not find an equalizer.
Leicester suffered some bad luck on Saturday. City opened the scoring with a controversial goal, when Leroy Sane set up David Silva inside the box. However, Raheem Sterling kicked at the ball from an offside position. Seven minutes later, Sane was brought down in the box by Leicester and Gabriel Jesus stepped up to the spot and sent keeper Kasper Schmeichel the wrong way.
Minutes before halftime, the Foxes cut the City lead in half. Shinji Okazaki smashed a Marc Albrighton cross into the net. Leicester picked up their intensity in the second half and thought they had tied the game after Riyad Mahrez won a penalty and appeared to score on the penalty kick. However, while taking the spot kick, Mahrez slipped and the ball deflected off of his plant leg. The referee disallowed the goal because Mahrez touched the ball twice.
