The move that every football fan in America is waiting to happen is quite a long-shot. However, the Washington Redskins are going to lose Kirk Cousins after this season, so you might as well go after a trade at this point. Nobody expects this team to be that great in 2017, so locking up a second round pick, and a starter, seems like a good move.

The San Francisco 49ers hired Kyle Shanahan to be their head coach, and he has a history with both Brian Hoyer, and Kirk Cousins. With the 49ers, Cousins would be a solid draw at the gate, especially if they can get some weapons around him. San Francisco is not going to win anything with Hoyer under center, although that may be the gameplan for general manager John Lynch.

While this trade make sense, it is probably the biggest dream scenario of all these hypothetical trades. Cousins and the Redskins appear ready to ride it out this season, and the organization is paying him handsomely to do so. The Redskins will likely win seven games this season, but that is not going to do much to help the long-term health of the franchise.

Hoyer is a decent quarterback, but the plan in Washington has to be to try to lose enough to get one of those solid quarterback prospects next April. It is going to be a long season in our Nation’s Capital, so why not start looking forward to 2018. They have played the Cousins scenario the wrong way from the start, and it is time for the two to move on.
