14. Cam Newton hits the dab

No quarterback in the NFL loves to celebrate more than Carolina Panthers signal caller Cam Newton. Sure, Aaron Rodgers has his Discount Double Check thing, but Newton has at least two moves that transcended into American pop culture: the always cliché Superman and hitting the dab.

Newton first fell in love with Superman as a kid. He did that mostly for his one year at Auburn and when the Panthers weren’t winning games his first few years in the league. Then in 2015, Carolina caught fire. The Panthers went 15-1 and made it to the organization’s second Super Bowl.

Besides the notion of keep pounding with that Charlottean bass drum of theirs, nothing was more 2015 Panthers than Newton hitting the dab. It was imitated everywhere and everybody was largely terrible at it, but Newton. For a bigger quarterback that looks like he should be playing defensive end next to Star Lotulelei, Newton is a nimble dude.

He’d did some stuff with his hands that made him instantly cooler than you’d ever be with a glow stick at Coachella. You knew that it was coming and then he’d hit the dab. The one arm out like a scarecrow, the other goes inside like you’re rocking a sling because you’re dumb and hurt yourself. Newton would then teach us the only way to check if your deodorant was still copacetic was through the dab.
