Colin Kaepernick is not holding out to be a starter and reportedly covets an opportunity with the Seattle Seahawks.

Colin Kaepernick watch 2017 got interesting yesterday when the former 49ers quarterback visited the division rival Seahawks.

Up until this point there was speculation surrounding the free agent following his National Anthem protest during the 2016 season. Many considered the idea that Kaepernick was being blackballed for his political views. Others believed the reason he hadn’t been on a team visit was because he desired a job as a starter. Some believed he wasn’t receiving offers that piqued his interest because of salary.

Now reports of the visit have surfaced that reveal Kaepernick’s true intentions.

Jordan Schultz reported that the visit with the Seahawks went very well and that it lasted most of the day. Kaepernick expressed interest in joining the Seahawks roster as a backup to Russell Wilson. Schultz added that there is no rush for the Seahawks to sign Kaepernick.

Kaepernick’s politics don’t seem to be of concern to the Seahawks despite much scrutiny from the public and the press. Schultz also remarked that Kaepernick is very well-liked, especially by his teammates. This is likely more important than public perception.

The option must be intriguing for the Seahawks. They will attempt to return to the Super Bowl after failing to appear in the game since 2014. Kaepernick has started in a Super Bowl, where he lost to the Baltimore Ravens. Experience in the high stakes game could be a factor in his signing with Seattle.

Russell Wilson has been known to get banged up during the season. The Seahawks have also yet to find a capable backup quarterback to sit behind the star. Currently they have a three-headed stable of Trevone Boykin, Jake Heaps and Skyler Howard. These players are competing to become the backup quarterback.

Boykin has showed some potential in the preseason, but the Seahawks don’t seem confident that he is ready. The others are longshots to make the active roster, especially if Kaepernick is an option.

One thing is for certain. If Kaepernick does sign with the Seahawks it will certainly add some spice to the division rivalry with the San Francisco 49ers.
