Tiger Woods issues a statement after his Memorial Day weekend arrest. He was arrested for suspicion of a DUI, but blames prescription pills as the culprit.

In the early hours of Memorial Day, Monday May 29, professional golfer Tiger Woods was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Palm Beach County. His mug shot was all over the internet by the time the story broke late morning Monday.

Woods has now issued a statement following his Memorial Day weekend arrest. However, it comes across a bit strange to say the very least. Though he apologizes for the unfortunate incident, Woods blames prescription pills as the reason for his suspicious driving and arrest.

Woods is quoted, “I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved. What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn’t realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly.”

When someone is arrested on suspicion of DUI, we have come to often associate it with driving under the influence of alcohol. However, other types of drugs including prescription pills can certainly impair ones judgement enough to the point that person shouldn’t be behind the wheel of a car or motor vehicle for that matter.

What’s troubling is that Woods didn’t think to have someone give him a ride home or where he was going in the wee hours of Monday morning. Combining medications should only be done under the discretion of one’s doctor. Even if the medical professional says that taking multiple medications that can impair one’s judgement simultaneously, one would think that the doctor would advise it is in the best interest of the patient to not operate a motor vehicle.
