24. Joe Montana

Of course, the greatest quarterback of the 1980s and possibly ever Joe Montana at one time rocked a slick Fu Manchu. He could have gone God dad ‘stache, but Montana was too cool for that jazz. When you use John Candy as a motivator to win a Super Bowl, you better believe that Montana was the coolest NFL player of his time.

It was one of those Fu Manchus that you could conceivably bring home to Mom, but you knew that it needed to go back to its natural habitat of Wrestlemania. While it wasn’t a thick ‘stache that could thirds when he had himself some seconds, there is just something mesmerizing about Montana’s ability to grow ironic facial hair.

Though he do know that he won four Super Bowls while quarterbacking the San Francisco 49ers, we may never know if Montana’s mustache get-up was “in”, was ironic or better yet, served a higher purpose.

The truth is we really don’t want to know. Though our long-lasting image of Montana has him as the clean-shaven signal caller for San Francisco, perhaps we need to push that photo of that spectacular Fu Manchu to new heights. One day we will tell our kids, “Of course, Joe Montana won all those Super Bowls with a Fu Manchu! That third one was all on John Candy.”
