Two of PBC’s crown jewels are set to face off against each other in what should be an intriguing bout for a number of reasons.

Sometimes the frustrating part about Premier Boxing Champions is that the best boxers under its banner have a hard time getting matched up against each other. And then other times, PBC delivers a big fight you might not expect, which is exactly what will happen when Adrien Broner and Mikey Garcia square off July 29 on Showtime.

Announced today by Showtime Sports, Broner and Garcia will meet at 140 pounds, which is significant for both fighters. Broner has two losses on his professional record, but they both occurred when he ventured up to welterweight. Garcia, meanwhile, racked up most of his 36 wins below lightweight, but after just two fights in that weight class — one of which earned him the WBC lightweight belt — he’s heading up in weight again for the second time in three outings.

Still, it’s a fight between two talented boxers under 30 years of age and thus still in their respective primes. Add in Broner’s innate sense of showmanship and the power that Garcia has displayed so far and it should be a fascinating matchup.

“SHOWTIME Sports continues to deliver the most anticipated matchups, the most important events and the most thrilling fights in boxing,” Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President and General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports, said in a press release announcing Broner-Garcia. “We consistently feature top-rated champions and challengers.  The best are fighting the best and the results have been spectacular.  Adrien Broner vs. Mikey Garcia is a fight that fight fans have dreamed of — an undefeated, young star facing one of the best 140-pound fighters in the sport, both men in the prime of their respective careers.  July 29 promises to be a memorable night in a year already full of memorable boxing events.”
