New York Yankees 30-20

Last week: 3-3
Last rank: 5

Brett Gardner…really? Really? The Yankees normally light-hitting leadoff man is up to 11 home runs on the season and could surpass his career highs by the end of June. Gardner slugged nearly .700 for the month of May.

Luis Severino has taken over as the official ace of the staff. He has run his record to 4-2 with a 2.93 ERA. He has struck out 69 in 61.1 innings while walking only 15. His fastball has late movement at 98 mph, his slider is biting, and his changeup is falling off the table. Severino looks nothing like the pitcher who struggled for most of last season.

Arizona Diamondbacks 33-22

Last week: 4-3
Last rank: 4

Whoa boy! The NL West race is shaping up to be one of the best baseball has seen in recent years. All three teams at the top of the division have over 30 wins and are separated by only 1.5 games. With the potential for fireworks from the Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies, this is the division to keep an eye on when the pennant races really get going.

Robbie Ray has blossomed into a legitimate ace behind Zack Greinke, giving the Diamondbacks a one-two punch that can compete with any team in the National League. Ray is 3-0 over his last three outings and has not allowed an earned run in 23.2 innings with 25 strikeouts and only three walks. Arizona is a bullpen arm and fifth starter away from having a realistic shot at contending for the World Series.
