The summer transfer window is approaching and every team’s fans are dreaming of a big signing.

With just the Champions League left to be settled, most of the world’s biggest football clubs are turning their attention to the future. Owners and chairmen are getting out their pocketbooks as they prepare for the global shopping spree of the transfer market.

Every week, FanSided will round up some of the most pie-in-the-sky gossip. Will it be Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Celtic? Paul Pogba back to Juventus? Ronaldinho out of retirement to play in MLS?

Here are the five dumbest transfer rumors for the week of June 3.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United

This rumor must be stopped immediately. Ronaldo made headlines this week for speaking out against Real Madrid fans jeering him, saying that he never experienced that at Old Trafford. United fans have taken that to mean that the Portuguese superstar is looking to leave the Bernabeu, which is completely unfounded.

Every summer there is, without fail, a contingent of United supporters who fall for rumors of Ronaldo coming back to England. While it’s true that he does often speak about how much he enjoyed Manchester, there’s really nothing to suggest he has any reason to leave Madrid.

It might happen one day, but this is another case of United fans reading far too much into something their hero said. Even if he wins the Champions League with them again, Ronaldo will almost certainly be back for Real next season.

This rumor literally comes up every summer. At this point, it’s useless to even think of it as a real possibility until Ronaldo is wearing a United shirt.
