Graham Rahal dominated IndyCar’s Detroit opener on Saturday while Scott Dixon had an amazing comeback. Here are the complete Dual in Detroit Race 1 results.

Graham Rahal led all but 15 laps in IndyCar’s Dual in Detroit Race 1 on Saturday, making great use of the pole position given to him after Helio Castroneves was penalized in qualifying.

Rahal assumed the top spot for the race after Castroneves, the original polesitter, was knocked down to second position for failing to slow for a qualifying caution. But Graham Rahal likely would have won from second place, too, as he stormed ahead of the field most of the day and had a lead of more than six seconds at the checkered flag.

The other major story of the Dual in Detroit was the comeback of Scott Dixon. Dealing with an ankle injury after the frightening crash that knocked him out of the Indy 500, Dixon cruised to a second place finish that also enabled him to become the new IndyCar championship leader. James Hinchcliffe recovered from an opening lap spin to complete the podium.

And in a race that’s considered a home event for Team Penske as it’s in Chevrolet’s backyard and put on by a team that includes Roger Penske, the highest finishing Penske was Josef Newgarden in fourth place. Castroneves was seventh, with Simon Pagenaud in 16th and Will Power in 18th, a lap down. The top three finishers were all Hondas.
