Former Knicks head coach Derek Fisher has reportedly been arrested for DUI after overturning his car on California highway early Sunday morning.

Sunday afternoon, word broke that Fisher had been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in the early morning hours. He reportedly left his lane and hit a shoulder and guard rail which flipped the car over. Thankfully, Fisher is reportedly okay. No other cars were involved, and the only passenger in the car — Fisher’s girlfriend, Gloria Govan — was also unharmed.

NBCLA had the first report on the incident:

"Former Los Angeles Laker and ex-New York Knicks head coach Derek Fisher was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after his vehicle overturned Sunday on the Ventura (101) Freeway. His lone passenger, former “Basketball Wives” reality star Gloria Govan, escaped injury. The crash was a little after 3 a.m. on the westbound freeway, approaching the San Diego (405) Freeway interchange. Fisher, 42, was driving a 2015 Cadillac, the California Highway Patrol reported.Fisher was driving in the number four lane, approaching the 405 interchange, when he allowed the vehicle to veer right and onto the paved right shoulder."

Govan had once been married to Matt Barnes of the Golden State Warriors. After separating from Barnes, her relationship with Fisher is what reportedly led to the incident where Barnes drove to her home and assaulted Fisher. Govan was previously featured on the first two seasons of the VH1 reality show, Basketball Wives.

Fisher was fired by the Knicks last February after a season and a half at the helm, where he accumulated a 40-96 record. The Knicks were, as they are now, mired in a stew of organizational chaos and Fisher’s inability to calm the chaos on or off the court reportedly led to his ouster. The way things ended in New York didn’t leave him as a sought-after coaching candidate, but this incident certainly won’t help his chances of returning to the league.
