So that both shows air their season finales on the same night, Veep takes a week off to allow Silicon Valley to catch up. By June 11, they will both be on episode 8.

We are officially seven episodes deep in Veep, with just three episodes left before the season wraps and we have to wait another year.

It’s times like these when people suddenly become really upset with HBO’s airing schedule. While there are obviously many benefits to how HBO does things, as a viewer, it can get really frustrating at times. The seasons are short, the wait time is long, and it’s a premium channel. Of course, the incentive is the amount of quality content, but I do feel like HBO’s only good around summer. After Veep and Silicon Valley, we go right into Game of Thrones (which usually comes on earlier in the year, but has been pushed back to July). Then, after Game of Thrones, we’ll head into Curb Your Enthusiasm. After that, I will likely take an HBO break.

Television is a competitive market, make no mistake.

Take another streaming/subscription service, for example, like Netflix, which is about the same price and offers the same amount of original content, but they offer it all at once. Maybe it’s just my millennial, “instant gratification” self, but I prefer it that way. It’s like a birthday. Get it all out of your system and have a big weekend-long bash, then wait a year.

HBO’s schedule is like going to the doctors, getting a referral to a specialist, going to a lab for blood tests, then waiting two weeks for the results.

It’s long, painful, and oftentimes, annoying. But I mean, you still do it. You need the results. You need to know how it ends.

Just like I need to see how Veep ends. I need to know what Selina Meyer’s endgame is, even if I’m not rooting for or interested in her happy ending. So I’ll be patiently waiting for June 11 when Veep returns.
