Graduate transfer Malik Zaire is joining the Florida Gators. His arrival should have an impact for the team in the SEC East.

With the graduate transfer rules being eased up on in the SEC, a major move has been made already. Notre Dame quarterback Malike Zaire will be joining the Florida Gators in hopes of making an impact with the program and reaching the next level.

Zaire certainly has gotten a lot of notoriety during his time with the Fighting Irish. With the quarterback room seemingly in flux, Zaire didn’t see much time on the field but he’s been around long enough to know everything part of the process that goes into being a college quarterback.

After the crushing loss in the SEC Championship Game last season, the Gators need someone who is going to create a spark under center. Although the sample size for Zaire is small, he has plenty of intrigue and wisdom to bring to the position. Here are five reasons why he will make an impact immediately.

5. Feleipe Franks doesn’t have to be thrust into the spotlight

Despite the fact that Zaire is 22 years old and has been around the game for a long time, he’s going to have competition at the spot. Feleipe Franks is a redshirt freshman that has plenty of hype and is going to fight for that starting job.

However, if the Gators don’t want to rush his development, Zaire provides them an option to hold down the fort for a year. If he really is the guy to come in and help lead the Gators to a big season, then it gives Franks all the more time to continue to learn the position.

It’s tough for a player to have to sit but it has its benefits as well. Franks is a tremendous talent and his time in college football is certainly coming. Beating out Zaire will definitely be a tall task for him.
