DraftKings Main MLB Picks For June 8

There are eight games in the main DraftKings tournament tonight, making it twice as big as the early one. There are some aces in here with some bargains hiding out. Should we stack Astros again? Where can we save the money to do so? Let’s crunch some numbers!

More from DFS

The money line was down to 111.6 last night. That likely had something to do with more than 20% of us being burned by the VERY late scratch of Dallas Keuchel. One of my lineups missed because of that. The other fell just short because of no production from my cheap picks.

The winning lineup was actually lower than the afternoon slate at 196.15. He struck gold with Alex Meyer and used the extra money to strike it rich with Mike Zunino and a Braves stack.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

DraftKings
Jun 6, 2017; St. Petersburg, FL, USA; Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria (3) hits a RBI single against the Chicago White Sox during the first inning at Tropicana Field. Mandatory Credit: Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Lance McCullers Jr. ($11,200): McCullers has held the Royals to a .242 average in 33 at bats while allowing only three solo homers and striking out nine. Salvador Perez has two of those homers, so you can take a shot with him if you like, but McCullers still looks like one of the stronger bets of the night. I trust him more than Jon Lester at Wrigley, and the Royals are still struggling to score runs in most games. This will be another one of those.

P: Jake Odorizzi ($7,900): Odorizzi has held the White Sox to a .227 average, though it is in only 27 at bats. The Sox have mustered just one run and struck out eight times. The South Siders continue to have a hard time scoring runs. Odorizzi boasts a 2.90 ERA in five home starts this year. He should be in line for another good game.

C: Gary Sanchez ($4,700): Sanchez is only 2-5 in his career against David Price, so what gives? Well, both of the hits are homers. He has also walked and driven in four. I like Aaron Judge tonight as well, but I wasn’t going to pass on Betts at his bargain basement price or move down from McCullers. Sanchez is a suitable consolation prize.

1B: Mitch Moreland ($3,300): Moreland is 4-11 with a walk, a double, a triple, two homers, three runs scored, and three RBI in his career against Michael Pineda. He has already homered once in this series, and this ballpark is very kind to left handed power. Moreland is very cheap, and could come up big tonight.

2B: Taylor Motter ($3,400): There isn’t much to this pick. With the money I had left over, it was either Ben Zobrist or Motter. I elected to go with Motter since it seems that Kyle Gibson is starting for the Twins. Any Mariner hitter could be worth a shot tonight….

3B: Evan Longoria ($3,600): Longoria is 9-28(.321) with three walks, four doubles, three homers, four runs scored, and eight RBI in his career against Derek Holland. In fact, Longoria has driven in every run the current Rays have scored against Holland. if anyone gets to him tonight, it will be Longoria.

SS: Xander Bogaerts ($4,100): Bogaerts is also the beneficiary of a depressed price against Michael Pineda. He is 7-24(.292) with a walk, a double, a homer, four runs scored, and three RBI in his career against Pineda. There are very few good mid-tier options at short tonight, and Bogaerts is priced right.

OF: Mookie Betts ($4,100): Betts is 6-20 with a walk, two doubles, two homers, three runs scored, and four RBI in his career against Pineda. Pineda has been the best pitcher for the Yankees this season, but the Red Sox are still a very good offense. They have enough pieces that have hit Pineda well in the past to take a shot on a mini stack tonight.

OF: Matt Adams ($3,900): Ben Lively had a very nice debut against Johnny Cueto and the Giants, but the Braves are an entirely different animal at SunTrust Park. All Braves lefties are in play here. Adams is priced way too low considering his three homers in 35 SunTrust Park at bats.

OF: Odubel Herrera ($3,700): Herrera continues to be scorching hot at the plate, and he draws a knuckleballer that boasts an ERA over 5 and is old enough to be his dad. Okay, maybe not that extreme, but the ERA is accurate. Herrera is 2-5 with a walk, two runs scored, and a solo homer against R.A. Dickey. He could get another one here.

DraftKings
Jun 3, 2017; Miami, FL, USA; Miami Marlins starting pitcher Edinson Volquez (36) dries himself off after being dunked with water after throwing a no-hitter against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Marlins Park. Mandatory Credit: Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Edinson Volquez ($8,200): Volquez threw a no-hitter in his last start. Now he gets a below average Pirates offense in a park that is nearly as friendly as his home digs. Volquez owns a 3.29 ERA at PNC Park in 21 career starts there. The only stadium in which he owns a lower ERA in five or more starts is Marlins Park. His teammates are hitting .408 against Gerrit Cole in 76 at bats as well, so his chances for a win are very high.

P: Derek Holland ($6,600): I know, I used Odorizzi in the other lineup, but I have a feeling that this will be a low scoring game again tonight. The Rays are dreadful against left handed pitching, and Tropicana Field plays as a pitcher’s park. The Rays have hit .292 against Holland, but he has racked up 15 strikeouts in 65 at bats. That will mitigate most of the damage done.

C: J.T. Realmuto ($3,700): Realmuto is an impressive 9-11(.818) with a homer, a steal, and two runs scored against Gerrit Cole. You can bet Realmuto will be on base at least once tonight. This is too much of a sample size to be a complete fluke.

1B: Chris Davis ($4,600): Joe Ross has given up 11 runs in his last two starts, including three homers. Davis has yet to really get going yet, but he has the greatest power potential of Orioles lefties and is facing a struggling pitcher. He could be a bargain at this price.

2B: Robinson Cano ($4,700): Some sites, including ESPN have Ervin Santana starting this game. We had the debacle last night with Michael Fulmer. Both DraftKings and MLB.com have Kyle Gibson as the starter. Regardless, I will have Cano in my lineup. He is 14-42(.333) with three walks, two doubles, six homers, ten runs scored, and 12 RBI in his career against Santana. He is 6-20 with a walk, a double, and five RBI off of Gibson. I hope that Santana starts, but Cano is a good bet either way.

3B: Kyle Seager ($3,900): If Ervin Santana does start, I will likely move off of Seager. He is 4-15 with three walks, a double, and a RBI against Gibson. He is just 5-23 against Santana. Seager’s slow start has tempered his price, but he has had two big games against the Twins so far. Don’t be shocked if he does it again tonight.

SS: Trea Turner ($5,400): Alec Asher is coming off of the best performance of his young career. Now he must face one of the best offenses in baseball. He was able to handle himself against Boston, and he gets a bit of a break not having to face a DH tonight, but the Nats still put a lot of runs on the board. I want the guy who starts it all off!

OF: Giancarlo Stanton ($4,900): Stanton is “only” 3-8 against Gerrit Cole. All three of those hits are for extra bases (two doubles and a homer) and he has driven in two. Cole has a solid 2.53 ERA at home, but he has still allowed six homers in five starts at PNC Park.

OF: Christian Yelich ($4,300): Yelich is 7-14 against Cole with three walks, three homers, four runs scored, and five RBI already in his career. I know that PNC Park is a pitcher’s park, but Cole is still plagued by gopher balls there, and the Marlins have some that have tagged him in his career.

OF: Seth Smith ($3,500): Smith continues to hit leadoff against right handed pitching, and he draws one that is giving up runs by the bushel here lately. I want the Orioles leadoff hitter even if I don’t pay up for a full stack. Smith is very cheap for what he could produce tonight.
