Near the end of the first quarter of Game 4 of the NBA Finals, Draymond Green landed an arm into the throat of Iman Shumpert.

After a horrible 3-point attempt by LeBron James, a jump ball occurred at half court in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. While trying to grab the ball out of the air, Draymond Green inadvertently hit Iman Shumpert.

Green was called for a foul right away, but it took him a while to learn he was at fault. Upon receiving that revelation, both Green and Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr were dumbfounded. Green was immediately called for a technical foul for his behavior. However, he was lucky to leave the scene without a technical for hitting a player in the throat.

The play led to a momentum shift toward the Cleveland Cavaliers, who are hoping to keep their title hopes alive. They came into Game 4 down 3-0, putting them on the verge of elimination. The Cavaliers led 49-33 at the end of the first quarter. That is the highest scoring quarter in NBA Finals history.

The Cavaliers hope to keep that momentum going into the rest of the game. If they don’t, they’ll be stuck in Cleveland for the foreseeable future. The Warriors can never be counted out. They have come back from worst deficits that came a lot later in games.

Green’s foul was just one of many in the first quarter. Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Andre Iguodala each had two fouls. This was Green’s third technical foul of the 2017 NBA Playoffs.

Draymond Green is known for his questionable plays. During the 2016 postseason, he was called for multiple flagrant fouls. Additionally, he was suspended for one game of the NBA Finals for a high kick into the groin area of an opponent. The defensive stalwart will have to watch himself for the rest of this game.
