What time should horse racing fans tune in on TV for the start of the 2017 Belmont Stakes?

On Saturday, the 149th running of the Belmont Stakes will take place at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY. It’s the final race of the Triple Crown, which had the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes occur in May.

At the Kentucky Derby, Always Dreaming won the race, with John Velasquez as the horse’s jockey. Whenever a horse wins this competition, the focus goes to if everyone is about to witness the next Triple Crown winner. This happened in 2015 with American Pharaoh, who became the first horse in over 35 years to achieve this. It was something that looked like it wouldn’t happen again, but did and increased interest in the sport.

However, in May, the Preakness Stakes guaranteed that no horse becomes a Triple Crown winner in 2017; Cloud Computing won, while Always Dreaming finished near the back of the pack, in eighth place.

Will this take interest away from the Belmont Stakes? Potentially. It’s still one of the biggest horse races of the year, though, and will draw in thousands of people at the venue and on TV.

For this race, neither Cloud Computing or Always Dreaming will compete, so there’s no chance of any horse winning two legs of the Triple Crown. That leaves the field open to Twisted Tom, Tapwrit, Gormley, J Boys Echo, Lookin at Lee, Senior Investment, Hollywood Handsome, and others to win.

The 2017 Belmont Stakes has a post time of 6:37 p.m. ET. However, the race won’t begin until 6:50 p.m. ET. When it does happen, one horse and jockey combination will look to win the latest running of the Belmont Stakes and cement themselves in history.
