After being released by the Kansas City Chiefs, Jeremy Maclin has found a new home with the Baltimore Ravens.

The Ravens were poised to enter the 2017 NFL season with Mike Wallace and Breshad Perriman as their starting wide receivers. Baltimore solidified the biggest hole on its roster, signing Jeremy Maclin to a two-year deal and adding a big-time playmaker to the Ravens receiving core. Joe Flacco is a happy man, to say the least, as Maclin is a welcome addition.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news Maclin had signed with the Ravens:

It appears the Ravens edged out the Bills for Maclin’s services. Maclin had visited Buffalo but left without a deal. It’s safe to say Baltimore had a much bigger need at wide receiver considering he would have to compete with Sammy Watkins and new draftee Zay Jones for playing time had he gone to the Bills.

The decision to play with Flacco probably also played a factor. The Ravens QB is known for having one of the strongest arms in the NFL. Maclin fits right into this Ravens system as he sort of fills the void that Steve Smith left when he retired this past year.

Adam Schefter added that Baltimore is also interested in adding Eric Decker despite the Maclin signing. Baltimore was heavily criticized for not drafting a wide receiver in the draft despite having big holes at the position. The Maclin deal makes their plan seem much better after they scored big with defensive selections of Marlon Humphrey, Tyus Bowser, Tim Williams and Chris Wormely.

The current wide receiver core seems to fit well with the Ravens offense. With Flacco willing to air it out, the Ravens may not have the best receiving core, but it may just be the fastest.
