Sebastian Telfair arrested for marijuana and weapons possession
Former first round pick Sebastian Telfair has been arrested on gun and drug charges for the second time in the last decade.
Former NBA point guard Sebastian Telfair has been arrested on weapons and marijuana-related charges, according to ESPN.
Per the report, Telfair was arrested during a traffic stop in Brooklyn. He was arraigned Sunday night and released on $75,000 bail. Telfair was also arrested on similar charges in 2007 when a traffic stop led to police finding a loaded handgun in the car. In that instance, Telfair received three years’ probation after pleading guilty to criminal possession of a weapon.
Telfair was a star at Lincoln High School in Brooklyn and is the cousin of former NBA All-Star Stephon Marbury. He entered the 2004 NBA Draft right out of high school and was picked 13th overall by the Portland Trail Blazers.
Telfair also saw time with eight other NBA teams including the Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves in his career. He averaged 7.4 points and 3.5 assists per game in 10 seasons and last played for the Xinjiang Flying Tigers of the Chinese Basketball Association.
Early reports also suggest Telfair could be looking at severe consequences as a result of the charges. Per ESPN’s brief report, police found a “ballistic vest,” ammunition and firearms that included a semi-automatic rifle along with the marijuana. That’s not exactly the same as just finding a random gun in the car.

It’s quite a fall from grace for the man who was named Mr. Basketball for New York and the USA in 2004. Telfair was also the MVP of that year’s McDonald’s All-American Game and this arrest is another case of a great deal of potential being flat-out wasted.
Details of the case are still being reported, but be sure to stay tuned to FanSided for further updates on this story.
