US Open 2017: Notable pairings in first round

The 2017 US Open Championship will begin on Thursday, June 15 at Erin Hills. Here are some of the more intriguing first-round pairings in this golf major.

The PGA Tour will be all about Wisconsin this upcoming weekend, as the 2017 US Open Championship will be making its debut at Erin Hills. This will be the second major tournament happening on the 2017 PGA Tour this season. Spain’s Sergio Garcia won the Green Jacket at the 2017 Masters Tournament in Augusta back in April.

The first-round of the US Open will be on Thursday, June 15. Many of the top golfers in the sport today will be in some interesting pairings in Round 1. Of all the first-round pairings, three immediately jump off the board.

At 9:35 a.m. ET, the trio of Martin Kaymer, Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson will take to the 10th tee to begin their tournament. Erin Hills will stagger golfers, alternating which nine (front or back) a trio will start from. Spieth is one of the best young golfers in the game. 2017 Masters Tournament favorite Johnson had to withdraw back in April due to a back injury.

Bubba Watson, Adam Scott and Garcia will take to the 1st tee at 2:36 p.m. ET. Watson could thrive at Erin Hills because of his reputation for driving the ball longer than most. Garcia will look to win his second straight major tournament this weekend.

Jason Day, Justin Rose and Rory McIlroy will begin their 2017 US Open at 3:09 p.m. ET at the first tee. Could this year’s winner be in this trio? We’ll just have to wait and see. Here are all the notable pairings from round one at Erin Hills.

Johnson looks to repeat at the US Open, as he won his first major tournament at Oakmont last year. He is the current No. 1 player in the world. Could we be in line for a repeat in this major tournament?
