Anthony Rizzo looked like he would be a weird fit in the leadoff spot, but it’s been smooth sailing with two straight nights of leadoff homers.

The Chicago Cubs may have captured some lightning in a bottle with their latest lineup change, as putting Anthony Rizzo in the leadoff spot is paying some serious dividends.

Rizzo had himself an impressive first night in the new lineup order Tuesday night, as he led off the game against the New York Mets with a bomb to center field to start the game for the Cubs. The team ended up winning 14-3, so obviously having Rizzo lead off gave them some good mojo.

The team decided that, since it wasn’t broken, they weren’t going to fix it. They put Rizzo back in the leadoff spot for Wednesday’s game against the Mets again, and, of course, it worked wonders.

Rizzo launched the first pitch he saw to center field, and put the Cubs up again right away before most fans could even find their seats in the ball park. At least he gave fans one more pitch to get settled in last night before launching one over the fence.

Ian Happ followed Rizzo’s lead by clobbering another home run right after the leadoff bomb, making it 2-0 Cubs immediately. If this pace keeps up for the rest of the night, we may never see Rizzo in any spot in the lineup other than batting first.

The home run was Rizzo’s 15th of the season, and his two home runs in two days are more than his homer total for the previous nine combined.

All I’m saying is, Rizzo officially has a 100% success rate when he takes the first at-bat of the night for the Cubs, so he has to be the greatest leadoff hitter in baseball history, right?
