Derrick Rose was once a league-MVP and heir apparent to LeBron James’s crown as best player in the Eastern Conference. A few knee surgeries later, he is turning into a journeyman.

Worst-case scenario, Derrick Rose ends up like Brandon Roy. Best-case scenario, Derrick Rose turns it around and becomes a useful player. The difference has little to do with Rose and more to do with Rose’s knees. With injury concerns and a hefty contract expectation, there are not many teams that will want Rose’s skills. Here are the five teams, in order of least likely to most likely, that might sign Derrick Rose this July.

5. New York Knicks

New York is in a stay of confusion after signing Rose, Joakim Noah, and Courtney Lee in the offseason to help Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis. To say that it did not work very well is an understatement. Noah turned into a shell of his old self. Lee did not play up to his contract. Rose had minor injury issues, and he did not play up to his contract either. With all of that being said, there is a possibility that New York runs it back with Rose and company while adding another veteran to push them into the playoffs.

After making over $21 million in the 2016-17 season, Rose is reportedly looking to make $150 million over five years on his next contract. That number would put Rose’s contract at $30 million per year. Will New York pay Rose $30 million a year for potential five years old? Can Phil Jackson see Rose running a triangle offense? The only reason that this makes sense is if Rose takes a short contract (1-2 years) and uses his age 28-29 seasons as prove it seasons for a last big contract.
