Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll feels confident that his team will be able to re-sign safety Kam Chancellor to a long-term extension here soon.

Four-time Pro Bowl strong safety with the Seattle Seahawks Kam Chancellor is entering the final year of his four-year deal he signed with the clubbing 2013. Though he previously held out for two games back in the early part of 2015, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is confident that Chancellor will sign a new long-term deal with Seattle here soon.

Carroll would say on Tuesday, “We’re working on it. And that’s all we’ll really say. But we are working at it with every intention of taking care of business….we’re going to work hard to get something done. We’ll see if we can.”

While Chancellor plays a crucial role in their defense, it is advantageous for the Seahawks to pay a 29-year-old safety top-dollar to stick with the club long-term? Chancellor is a former fifth round pick out of Virginia Tech in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Finding Chancellor in the fifth round is a huge reason that Seahawks general manager John Schneider was able to build a team that went to back-to-back Super Bowls in 2013 and 2014. Chancellor normally plays up in the box as a STAR safety/inside linebacker hybrid.

Frankly, Chancellor has been instrumental in helping Carroll’s Cover 3 defense have staying power across the league. Teams like the Atlanta Falcons, the Jacksonville Jaguars and now the Los Angeles Chargers use this coverage with a single-high safety.

However, Chancellor did miss four games last season with ankle injuries. He had offseason surgery to clean up his ankles, but there is a chance we have may seen Chancellor’s best ball already. Seattle can’t afford to pay everybody, but expect Schneider to do his best to get Chancellor back on a new contract for 2018. However, a the 2015 holdout may hurt his cause to garner more money in this new deal.
