Taking a look at where the boxing match between Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor will take place

For nearly two years, fans have been wondering whether the super fight pitting boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor would ever become a reality.

But on Wednesday afternoon, the speculation ended as reports announced thee boxing match between the two outspoken pugilists had officially been booked for August 26 in Las Vegas.

Initially, the reports indicated Showtime Sports was targeting either the T-Mobile Arena or the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas to host the highly anticipated bout. Less than one hour later, UFC President Dana White announced it would indeed go down at the T-Mobile Arena.

In terms of competition, Mayweather (49-0 boxing), has not competed since announcing his retirement following his decision win over Andre Berto in September 2015, earning $32 million in the process. This win pushed his professional record to an astounding 49-0, tying with with the legendary Rocky Marciano. Some of his more high profile wins include decisions over Manny Pacquiao, Canelo Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto.

McGregor (21-3 MMA, 18 (T)KOs), the reigning UFC lightweight and former, featherweight champion,  second-round knockout over Eddie Alvarez, earning the UFC’s 155-pound title. Combined with his 145-pound belt, McGregor became the first fighter to hold belts in belts in two separate weight classes simultaneously. He previously earned his featherweight crown with a 13-second knockout over Jose Aldo at UFC 194 in December 2015.

Mayweather Promotions is expected to fill out the undercard with several other marquee boxing matchups. As is the case for every recent Mayweather fight, the entire event will air on Showtime Sports.
