Jinder Mahal and Randy Orton clashed in a bitter sequel for the WWE Championship at Money in the Bank on Sunday night.

With the legends of St. Louis wrestling history sitting ringside, Randy Orton came out with plenty of motivation at WWE Money in the Bank on Sunday night. Looking to win back his WWE Championship, Orton had to keep his emotions in check early against Jinder Mahal.

Much like his match at Backlash, Orton came out firing and on the offensive. He went for an RKO right away that Mahal was able to just avoid. Clearly the challenger wasn’t in the mood to play any games in the beginning.

Orton would tweak his knee as Mahal managed to finally get some offense going. The champion used his intellect to begin attacking the weakness of his opponent. As he hobbled around the ring, Orton couldn’t get the strength and momentum to send the champion into the steel steps.

Instead, he took a ride right into them and began to clutch his left leg. Relentlessly, he continued to have his leg targeted over and over. It was as if Mahal suddenly snapped as he went to work consistently up against the ropes using the four count to his advantage.

In an even more audacious move, Mahal applied the figure-four leg lock on Orton right in front of Ric Flair himself. Arrogantly pacing through the match, the champion took his challenger up to the top rope. Wanting to use the superplex like Bob Orton sitting ringside in another move of disrespect, Mahal would be sent back to the mat by the legend’s son. Repaying the favor, Orton would follow in his father’s footsteps and deliver a superplex off the top rope.

Using that to get some momentum going, he went to his patented DDT off the rope on Mahal. Feeling the end is near, the crowd cheered on as Orton began to set up for a third RKO attempt and a chance to finally strike.

To the delight of everyone, Orton successfully landed it. As the ref began to count to three, the Singh Brothers placed the champion’s foot on the bottom rope to avoid losing the belt. Both would be thrown out of the match and they would end up being beside themselves as they exchanged words with the legends ringside.

Both brothers would attempt to put their hands on Orton’s dad, as the challenger attacked both in retaliation. He would send them over the announce tables just like the month prior and an RKO to Samir. Then in a fit of rage he delivered an RKO to Sunil through the table. This is all the distraction Mahal would need to deliver another Khallas to Orton and successfully defend his title.
