Andre Iguodala

Small Forward, Golden State Warriors

It’s all good in Oakland for the NBA’s reigning champion Golden State Warriors. They have completed the best three-year run of any team in recent memory. While owner Joe Lacob still probably believes that his team is light years ahead of everybody else, Golden State has to go to work to bring the whole gang back for 2017-18.

Re-signing point guard Stephen Curry is obvious. He’ll make more than the $12 million he made in 2016-17. Technically, NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant could opt out his deal to become a free agent, but would probably only do so to free up more cap space for the Warriors to re-sign some other important role players, none more important than sixth man Andre Iguodala.

Though Iguodala isn’t a starting level player on a good team any more, he is most crucial for the Warriors being an absolute juggernaut. Iguodala is skilled on both ends of the floor and is the Warriors’ ultimate glue guy. While he only averaged 7.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists last year, he was worth every penny of that $11.1 million he made.

At 33-years old, Iguodala has a big personal decision to make. Does he take more money to sign elsewhere or does he continue to take less to keep winning NBA Championships? Even if Durant is willing to take less of his deal, there is a great chance Iguodala has played his last game in the Bay Area. Teams that want a piece of that Golden State greatness will overpay for Iguodala. Golden State won’t have the fair market financial resources to match.
