After another season of disappointment, the Chicago Bulls may not bring back their starting point guard.

Rajon Rondo may be in trouble. Because of his behavior with Chicago last season, he could find himself swimming in the free agency pool this summer. His troubles with the Bulls organization over the past season are well documented. He was benched for a good portion of the season and made public comments about his displeasure with the Bulls new “Big three.”

Rondo was fantastic at the beginning of the Bulls first round playoff series with the Celtics but is performance there didn’t really seem sustainable, given his production across the entire season. There’s no better time for Chicago to cut Rondo. They just traded their face of the franchise, Jimmy Butler, for little to nothing and appear poised to start a rebuild. If that’s the case, Rondo has to go out the door.

In the Butler trade, Chicago received the No. 7 overall pick, who they turned into Lauri Markkanen, Kris Dunn, and Zach LaVine.

Congratulations Chicago: you are now in basketball purgatory. Would you like some refreshments? We have mistake margaritas, “the next Brooklyn Nets” soda, and “time for a new GM” flavored water.

Since the Bulls now have Kris Dunn and Cameron Payne to handle the point guard duties, there’s no room for the old and seemingly washed Rajon Rondo. Even though he had an inspiring performance in the first two games in the series against Boston, the small sample size is not worth his $13.3 million dollar contract. The Bulls can cut Rondo before July 1 and avoid paying him.

Chicago is like the smoking car in the parking lot across from the grocery store. It’s hard to watch, but you can’t look away.
