Devonta Freeman is still thinking about last year’s Super Bowl loss to the New England Patriots.

In an article by ESPN’s News Services, during a recent interview on SiriusXM Blitz, Devonta Freeman made the claim that if the Atlanta Falcons hung on to their lead in Super Bowl LI he would have beaten out quarterback Matt Ryan for MVP.

Devonta Freeman’s first half stat line was impressive: 75 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown. He also made his mark in the passing game, making two catches for 46 yards. As we all know, the second half didn’t exactly play out as expected with Tom Brady leading a roaring come-from-behind victory that will forever have its place in the history books. During the Falcons collapse in the second half of the game, Freeman only had five carries for a mere 4 yards.

It was a brutal way to lose any game, much less the Super Bowl. He’s quoted as saying, “It’s hard to move on from something like that, I don’t think I’ll ever move on from something like that.”

Matt Ryan seems to have put the loss behind him, previously saying that 2018 is a new year with a new team. That’s definitely the right mentality to have as the leader of a locker room. Freeman feels especially confident about the Falcons chances to return to the biggest stage this year, going as far as saying he feels they will win the Super Bowl this year. A Super Bowl victory may be the only way to lessen the haunting memories of last year.
