Adrian Wojnarowski, the man behind some of the biggest recent NBA news is taking his talents to ESPN, but when does he start?

According to Richard Deitsch of Sports Illustrated, Adrian Wojnarowski will begin working at ESPN on July 1.

This news finally makes Wojnarowski’s move to ESPN official after months of rumors surrounding the deal.

Almost every big scoop of the past five years has been broken by Wojnarowski. His NBA Draft night coverage is impeccable as he can publicize selections credibly long before they occur.

The timing of his move surely isn’t a coincidence. July 1 also marks the opening of the NBA free agency window. This point of the season is one of the more exciting for NBA reporters competing for scoops.

It had been rumored the move would happen around this time, but confirmation has finally arrived. Kevin Draper of Deadspin who first reported ESPN’s acquisition said the move would be final “sometime around July 1.” Other reports stated he would begin before the NBA Draft, but that past without the acquisition.

Before moving to ESPN, Woj was a headache for the sports empire. He always picked up scoops before ESPN could find them. He was a longtime writer at Yahoo Sports where he edited the Vertical, focused on the biggest reports from the NBA. Now, ESPN can be on the good side of his Woj-bombs that tend to break Twitter.

It remains unknown whether or not Woj will bring some of his Vertical staff along with him to his new job.

Wojnarowski going to ESPN comes amid lots of changes in the ESPN landscape. Many of ESPN’s biggest NBA reporters have been laid off, so this move is somewhat counterintuitive to their recent strategy. However, picking up one of the best NBA reporters in the game is a no-brainer.
