Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook have had a rough last year with both silence and trolling between the two, but KD paid his respect to the new MVP.

Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook have a long history together, as both friends and now enemies after Durant’s departure from the Oklahoma City Thunder. No matter what they think of each other, Durant showed some respect for the league’s new MVP after Monday’s NBA Awards.

In a post on his official YouTube channel, Durant posted some congratulations for all those who took home awards at the event Monday night. After going through the rounds, including Malcolm Brogdon and Giannis Antetokounmpo for their respective wins, it came time for Durant to show some love for Westbrook.

Durant said, after declaring Antetokounmpo would become a league MVP one year, how he called Westbrook’s win years ago, and finally gave some props for his former Thunder teammate.

While the congratulations towards Westbrook may have been buried a little bit in the large chunk of text, it still counts. Durant also gave a shout out to former Thunder teammate James Harden, who he said will also be an MVP at some point before his career is all said and done.

Just a few days ago, Durant was spotted wearing a hat with a cupcake on it, referencing the trolling by Westbrook towards Durant after his NBA Finals win with the Golden State Warriors. For one final touch, Durant decided to put a nice little ring on the cupcake, which was a good way to put a figurative cherry on top of the situation.

It’s good to see Durant still showing respect to the league MVP after a dominant season, but who knows where the two really stand at the moment with each other. We’ve gone through the silent treatment between the two, a nice YouTube congratulatory post, and now all we need is a true reunion to make this drama potentially go away.
