NBA Free Agency 2017: 5 offseason targets for the Chicago Bulls

2. Kelly Olynyk
There aren’t many players like Kelly Olynyk. 7-footers who shoot above the league average on 3-pointers while looking Jay from Clerks fame are few and far between. He surprises with his defensive efforts and has been known to antagonize opponents. Olynyk flashed his talents during Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals, scoring 14 of his 26 in the fourth in a close victory. With Boston set to make moves this summer, one of those could be letting their Game 7 hero walk.
Olynyk would compliment the burly Robin Lopez well in Chicago. He spaces the floor to the 3-point line and brings more offensive diversity than Lopez does. Olynyk has learned the finer points of defense from Brad Stevens and has become a fine player on that end; he won’t anchor a team around the rim though. Additionally, he is a below-average rebounder. The former Gonzaga product won’t improve by leaps and bounds at 26-years-old, but is already a solid NBA player on both ends already.
A new team and new role could coax more out of Olynyk’s talents. He has frequently been relegated to spot-up shooter during long durations in Boston, which he can do. But he has shown good passing skills and gets to the rim more than a player with his physical gifts seemingly should. Olynyk was probably underutilized with the Celtics. For that reason, he could be a steal for his next team and be a smart addition for the Bulls.
