The North Carolina Tar Heels have been competitive in recent years, but will that continue to be the trend in 2017? A look at their projected depth chart

Under head coach Larry Fedora, North Carolina Tar Heels football has been on the rise for quite some time. After the 2015 season, they were playing the Clemson Tigers in the ACC Championship Game. This past campaign, they were competing again to represent the Coastal Division, ultimately following short and finishing second. Now they head into the 2017 season with far more uncertainty about them.

North Carolina has undergone a number of critical losses on both sides of the ball. Mitchell Trubisky, their star quarterback from a season ago, was selected No. 2 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. However, there were far more departures than just the signal-caller. Put simply, both sides of the ball for the Tar Heels will be unproven in 2017.

However, between Fedora and his staff, such as defensive coordinator Gene Chizkik, there’s still hope for the Tar Heels. Yes, the ACC is loaded, but the Coastal much less so than the Atlantic. With that, there’s a chance that UNC could surprise some people this season. Despite big changes, they still have a plethora of talent and new faces coming into Chapel Hill.

As they head into this new season with new faces and new looks, though, what can fans expect to see on the field in terms of the players and roles? We’ll take a look at the projected depth chart during the summer as North Carolina eyes their season-opener at home against the Cal Golden Bears.
