Royals Get
LHP Jerry Vasto
RHP Yency Almonte
Rockies Get
LHP Mike Minor

Why the Royals should do it: The Kansas City Royals have been one of the hottest teams in the game of late and it’s pushed them back into the AL Central race. The issue is they have so many guys on expiring deals that they won’t get first round picks for. It would be a good idea to cash in on some of those assets and get the rebuilding process going, so they don’t bottom out. While the Wade Davis for Jorge Soler trade was in that mold, it hasn’t worked out for the Royals. That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t continue the process.

Cashing in on Mike Minor is something they should do. In this scenario, Vasto is a lefty reliever himself who has sub 2.00 ERA as a lefty reliever in AAA in Albuquerque which is a launching pad. He could impact the Royals pen right now.   Almonte is a starter who’s excelling in AA and could be a part of the Royals rotation in a year or two. Good return for a reliever.

Why the Rockies should do it: With Jon Gray and Chad Bettis on their way back, the Rockies could have a very deep starting rotation. With a ton of offense, they should focus on making their bullpen, which is already a strength, stronger. Minor, Mike Dunn and Jake McGee, albeit all left-handed with Adam Ottavino and Greg Holland is a deep bullpen that can help the Rockies get to the playoffs for the first time since 2009.
