MLB trade rumors: One player each team should target
Chicago White Sox: Derek Fisher
The Houston Astros have built up one of the best lineups in the league, but all that could go for naught if their starting rotation blows up in the playoffs. They have been mentioned as a frontrunner to acquire Jose Quintana since it became evident last winter that the White Sox were heading for a rebuild. The Sox held onto Quintana to be moved at this trade deadline, and a bumpy 2017 is unlikely to destroy his trade value.
Derek Fisher’s raw power has been his best tool since his college days at the University of Virginia. In four seasons in the minor leagues, the big outfielder has 89 home runs. He made his MLB debut on June 14 and already has two home runs. Strikeouts are going to be a big part of Fisher’s game, but he also has a very patient approach at the plate and is willing to take a walk if it is given to him.
The White Sox made two big trades early in their rebuild that focused primarily on starting pitching. Targeting Fisher as the main piece in a Quintana trade gives them another promising hitter to pair with Yoan Moncada who is immediately ready to step into the starting lineup. If the White Sox pull this rebuild off, their fortunes could turn very quickly.
