Wimbledon 2017: Men’s results – Day 1
Taking a look at the men’s results on Day 1 from Wimbledon 2017 as a top-five seed in Stan Wawrinka was shockingly upset in four sets.
It appeared as if 2017 might be Stan Wawrinka’s year in the world of men’s tennis. Though he lost in the French Open final, there was still high hopes. He’s been playing well all year and, entering Wimbledon 2017 as the No. 5 seed, the hope was that he’d have another strong showing in London. That won’t be the case, however.
On Day 1 from Wimbledon, Wawrinka was upset in four set by Daniil Medvedev, the 70th-seeded player in the tournament. That takes one of the big guns out of this tournament. What’s even crazier about that is that it takes a grand slam that already appeared wide-open and furthers that.
Also in terms of notable results, Nick Kyrgios was forced to retire after dropping the first two sets due to a lingering hip injury. Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray both rolled in their matches, looking in form at Wimbledon.
