NBA rumors: Jamal Crawford or Nick Young could go to Warriors
By John Buhler
The Golden State Warriors are looking to add a scoring wing off the bench. Two players that could go to the Bay Area are Jamal Crawford or Nick Young.
How are things on the West Coast? It might be the 4th of July in America, but we are in the heart of NBA free agency. Early on Tuesday morning, there were rumors of a three-way sign and trade between the Denver Nuggets, the Los Angeles Clippers and the Atlanta Hawks.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski first broke the news of the deal of Paul Millsap going to Denver in a sign and trade, Danilo Gallinari going to the Clippers and Jamal Crawford being one of the pieces going to Atlanta.
Wojnarowski’s colleague Chris Haynes would report that Crawford to Atlanta would essentially be a salary dump, as he wants to be bought out. The Hawks really just want young player Diamond Stone and that first-round pick the Clippers gained from Houston in the Chris Paul trade.
So if Crawford does get bought out if this three-team trade goes through, where is he likely heading? Crawford and former Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Nick Young have their eyes set on joining the Golden State Warriors.
Young had been linked to the Warriors first, as he is in his unrestricted free agency after leaving Los Angeles. It’s a tad trickier with Crawford who is still under contract through 2018-19 with the Clippers for over $14 million annually.

Since Atlanta is rebuilding and will be presumably under the cap, the Hawks are a prime target eat up salary to reach the floor. Crawford may have won his first NBA Sixth Man of the Year in Atlanta, but would have any interest in playing for a rebuilding team. He’s done a lot of great things in the NBA, but winning a championship evades him. It’s between he and Young for that roster spot coming off the Warriors bench.
