A source close to Sam Darnold has reported that he may stay two more years at USC. Would the superstar quarterback pass on millions to play an extra year or two in college?

Sam Darnold apparently may stay in college for two more years. If the latest report is true, Darnold would be forgoing the opportunity to be the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Forget a fringe quarterback like Jared Goff potentially deciding to go back to school, this would be an Andrew Luck-type of shocker to go back to school, should the USC stud return to Los Angeles. Darnold crazy enough to pass on a lot of potential money in favor of playing for free in college?

It seems pretty plausible that a first-round quarterback would enter the draft as soon as possible, right? Then again, every person has different motives. It’s impossible to know what drives Darnold;  money means something different to every single person.

Even if you don’t believe the latest rumor, let’s play devil’s advocate. What are five reasons Sam Darnold would decide forgo the NFL Draft, and return to USC?

5. Win the Heisman

The most decorated award in college football history, the Heisman Trophy. The likes of Matt Leinart, Carson Palmer, and Marcus Allen have all brought home the award to the University of Southern California. We could add Reggie Bush to that list, but of course, he technically didn’t win the award after it was vacated. That’s quite the list of stud athletes that USC has represented.

There appears to be fierce competition for the award this coming season which includes the likes of Baker Mayfield, Saquon Barkley, Josh Rosen, Bo Scarbrough, Derrius Guice and even reigning winner Lamar Jackson. In addition to the competition, Darnold will have to put up video game-type numbers to compete with the Big 12 quarterback in Mayfield alone who put up 70 points a game with no defense.

Also, you get to be on those corny ESPN commercials forever hanging out with a bunch of old-timers. Well, maybe that one isn’t such a positive. Then again, the Heisman has also proven to be a curse. Ever hear of Danny Wuerffel, Chris Weinke, Eric Couch or Jason White? Of course, you haven’t much at all in recent times because they never made it in the NFL. Tim Tebow, Johnny Manziel and Robert Griffin III are more recent examples of Heisman winners turned NFL busts. Yeah, maybe this should be fifth on the list.
