The Arizona Diamondbacks have the postseason in sight and a few transactions could help get them there. Here are five trades Arizona should make.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have been holding their own in a surprisingly competitive National League West this season. With the San Francisco Giants in the basement, the Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, and Los Angeles Dodgers have been fighting for the top spot in the division. The Diamondbacks have a 52-34 record and are 5.5 games back from the first place Dodgers. They’re also leading the current Wild Card standings.

Under the leadership of new manager Torey Lovullo, the Diamondbacks have enjoyed success in the first half of the season and could make it to the postseason for the first time since they lost to Milwaukee in the National League Division Series in 2011.

Arizona has been doing well so far this season, but a few adjustments could make all the difference in the world.

5. Behind the Plate

A quick look at the team batting stats shows that there is a glaring hole coming from catcher Jeff Mathis. Mathis has appeared in 40 games and has posted 124 at-bats. His batting average is .185, with 23 hits and eight RBI. Those are not the kind of numbers you want to see from a starter. Atlanta’s Tyler Flowers or Kurt Suzuki might be the perfect fit.

Getting someone in that spot who can drive in runs and frame pitches would be great to shore up the one gaping hole in the lineup.
