2. Starting Rotation

Though the need for some support in the bullpen is the bigger issue for the team, there’s nothing wrong with shopping around for some help in the starting rotation, particularly in the middle of the rotation to give some breathing room to Zack Greinke. Going deep into the postseason means having guys who can throw five to six solid innings.

Yu Darvish might be a good choice. The right-handed pitcher from Texas is 6-7 in 18 games, with an ERA of 3.56 in 111.1 innings of work. At 30, he has experience and longevity and he’d add a lot of value to the rotation. Darvish will have a higher price tag on him, which might not make him as attractive to the Diamondbacks as someone with a lower price tag and good potential.

The struggling Athletics are open to deals, and Sonny Gray might be a good deal at a great value. While his numbers are fantastic, a change of venue and management style might help him find his groove. Gray is 4-4 with an ERA of 4.00 in 78.2 innings. He appeared in 13 games so far this season, but with a little work he might be the right guy at a good price.
