The Ultimate Fighter 25 Finale: Jordan Johnson earns decision over Marcel Fortuna

On Friday, June 7, the UFC touched down in Las Vegas to bring fight fans The Ultimate Fighter 25 Finale.

Kicking off the FOX Sports 1 main card, fans were treated to a light heavyweights slobber knocker between Marcel Fortuna vs. Jordan Johnson.

Fortuna, a former Dragon House MMA champion, was looking to keep his prefect UFC record in tact. Prior to facing Johnson, ‘Maozinha’  earned a first round knockout win in his UFC debut over heavyweight Anthony Hamilton. Following the win, Fortuna announced e  dropping back down to light heavyweight.

His opponent, the 28-year-old Johnson, was also looking to continue his run of perfection. The California native previously earned a decision win in his UFC debut against Henrique da Silva in January. This marked just the second fight in Johnson’s career to reach the judge’s scorecard.

Round 1

With a touch of the gloves, both fighters met in the center of ht Octagon. Sticking to the outside, Fortuna circled away, avoiding Johnson’s opening kicks. However, this plan would proved futile as Johnson snatched a kicked out of the air and dragged Fortuna to the canvas, unloading a handful punches in the process. Surviving, Fortuna popped back up to his feet.

Pushing the pace, Fortuna looked to establish his jab while remaining just outside of Johnson’s reach.  Ducking under a hook, Johnson unloaded with a stiff shot to the body of Fortuna. Pressing forward, Johnson missed badly with an overhand right before clinching up and pushing Fortuna into the fence. Breaking free, Fortuna walked right into a staff jab from Fortuna. Looking to duck under again, Johnson found himself on the receiving end of a right uppercut. Fortuna closed out the round with a lazy leg kick. FanSided scores it 10-9 Johnson

Round 2

Looking to pick up right where he left off, Johnson pushed forward with his jab while avoiding Fortuna’s looping punches. Finding his rhythm, Fortuna began to time Johnson’s duck under with a counter uppercut. Catching his opponent behind the ear, Fortuna momentarily stunned Johnson.

Shaking off the cobwebs, Johnson plodded forward as he stalked his opponent toward the fence. Timing Johnson’s punch, Fortuna countered with a straight right to the jaw. Jumping in, Fortuna connected with another left hook before exploded with a series of haymakers followed by an uppercut, none of which found their mark. With his confidence soaring, Fortuna slapped his shin across Johnson’s thigh followed by crippling one-two combination. Surviving the onslaught, Johnson clinched up and pushed Fortuna into the fence before securing the takedown to close out the round. FanSided scores it 10-9 Fortuna

Round 3

With only one round left, both men immediately opened the third frame with a powerful punches. Johnson attempted to clinch back up but Fortuna shook him off. Relying heavily on his lead jab, Fortuna struggled to connect as Johnson danced away from damage. With the boo birds starting to rain down from the rafters, Johnson continued to slowly walk a hesitant Fortuna down.  Missing with yet another uppercut, Fortuna attempted a takedown of his own until Johnson easily reversed and pushed him into the fence.

Breaking free, Fortuna slowly backed away before connecting with a series of kicks to close out the fight. FanSided scores it 10-9 Johnson
