A look a the Wimbledon 2017 men’s results from third round action on Day 5, including Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray advancing.
Through four days and two rounds of action, Wimbledon 2017 moved into the third round on Friday as Day 5 action on the men’s side of the proceedings got underway. The third round of a grand slam is always where things start to really hit up, especially on the grass for Wimbledon. As such, we had five matchups on Friday between seeded players.
No. 1 seed Andy Murray and No. 4 Rafael Nadal were both up against seeded players, but it didn’t look like it. Nadal advanced with ease in a straight-set victory, his 28th consecutive set won in a grand slam. Meanwhile, Murray dropped the second set, but still looked dominant to get the win.
The same can’t be said for No. 9 seed Kei Nishikori, however. He came up against Roberto Bautista Agut on Day 5 at Wimbledon 2017 and was just overmatched. The 18th seed won the first two sets, dropped the third, but rallied back to capture the fourth and the upset victory.
Obviously the good stuff is just now getting started in London. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the Wimbledon 2017 men’s results from Day 5’s action:
Kevin Anderson def. Ruben Bemelmans – 7-6, 6-4, 7-6
(16) Gilles Muller def. Aljaz Bedene – 7-6, 7-5, 6-4
(18) Roberto Bautista Agut def. (9) Kei Nishikori – 6-4, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3
(7) Marin Cilic def. (26) Steve Johnson – 6-4, 7-6, 6-4
Benoit Paire def. Jerzy Janowicz – 6-2, 7-6, 6-3
(4) Rafael Nadal def. (30) Karen Khachanov – 6-1, 6-4, 7-6
(1) Andy Murray def. (28) Fabio Fognini – 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5

As of right now, the top four seeds at Wimbledon look like they’re heading towards a massive showdown for the second grand slam of the year. All it takes is one match for that to change of course. However, Nadal and Murray kept on in the third round and, if the second round was any indication, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic will follow suit.
