Looking at the women’s results from Wimbledon 2017 at the start of the third round on Day 5 with Venus Williams taking to the grass again in London.

For all of those tennis fans tuning into Wimbledon 2017 to see the women’s bracket go completely haywire without Serena Williams playing, think again. On Friday for Day 5 action as the third round of the second grand slam got underway, eight seeded players were in action, which set the stage for several upsets.

Instead, what spectators got was an almost wholly dominant win by the higher seeds, with only the exception of Dominika Cibulkova, who was defeated by Ana Konjuh in three sets. With that being said, while Cibulkova was the No. 8 seed, Konjuh isn’t far being at 27th.

Now in terms of big names, Venus Williams was in action again and continue to be taking over where her sister left off. She rolled in straight sets and, at least at this faze, seems to be ready to maker her mark on London.

Day 5 from Wimbledon 2017 is now in the books and, well, it hasn’t gotten as wild as many had believed it would. With who all is left, though, the mundanity could be short-lived. For now, let’s take a look at the Wimbledon 2017 women’s results from the third round on Day 5:

(21) Caroline Garcia def. Madison Brengle – 6-4, 6-3
Victoria Azarenka def. Heather Watson – 3-6, 6-1, 6-4
(27) Ana Konjuh def. (8) Dominika Cibulkova – 7-6, 3-6, 6-4
(2) Simona Halep def. Peng Shuai – 6-4, 7-6
(4) Elina Svitolina def. Carina Witthoeft – 6-1, 7-5
(6) Johanna Konta def. Maria Sakkari – 6-4, 6-1

As stated, Cibulkova getting upset was part of the big news on Day 5 at Wimbledon 2017. At the same time, however, the fact that hers was the only upset of the day may be the most shocking part of Friday’s third round women’s action. With how wild the tournament has been, that’s no what we’ve come to expect early on.
