In a nightmare situation for 76ers fans, number one pick Markelle Fultz injured his ankle in the team’s Summer League game Saturday night.

The Philadelphia 76ers’ luck with first round picks the last few years has been absolutely horrible, and the curse continued Saturday night when the first overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, Markelle Fultz, was injured in a Summer League game.

In the team’s game against the Golden State Warriors, Fultz was making his debut in a Sixers uniform, and the nightmare situation fans dreamed of happened. As the point guard was looking to block a layup in the lane, his left ankle rolled awkwardly as he went up to the air, and Fultz was in pain immediately after landing.

The injury comes after last year’s top pick Ben Simmons was hurt for the year, and Joel Embiid, the third overall pick in 2014, also has had some injury issues over the years, as well.

Fultz was taken to the locker room immediately after the incident, and was visibly in pain as he couldn’t put any weight on his ankle as trainers carried him off the court.

The injury could prove to be disastrous for the Sixers, who were just getting their whole “process” going this offseason, with a trio of Fultz, Simmons, and Embiid ready to dominate the floor in the Eastern Conference. Add in the addition of J.J. Redick on an expensive one-year deal, and it looked like success may be returning to the court in Philadelphia sooner rather than later.

Fultz was almost instantly ruled out for the game, and no other update was given on the full extent of the injury. However, if it’s a long-term absence for the top pick, it’ll just continue the string of bad luck for fans in Philly over the last few years.

The best bet is to just “Trust the Process” and hope that Fultz gets back in time for the start of the season.
