22. Domingo Santana

When a young MLB prospect is traded twice in two major deals before establishing himself as a full-time player, it speaks to how highly scouts rate his raw tools. Domingo Santana was a key piece in the trade that sent Hunter Pence from the Houston Astros to the Philadelphia Phillies. The Astros then turned around and sent him to Milwaukee when they acquired Mike Fiers and Carlos Gomez.

While it is not ideal for a player’s development to be traded twice so early in his career, Santana has not let it affect him. He never quite fit into the long-term plan for the Astros, but has a home in the middle of the Brewers lineup. Santana is having a breakout year in 2017 and is on pace to approach 30 home runs and 100 RBI.

The Brewers have built one of the most exciting lineups in the National League, and are going to make life difficult for the Chicago Cubs for the rest of the season. Santana is a big part of that. There is a lot of swing-and-miss to his approach at the plate, but he also does a good job drawing walks. Being jerked around early in his career has not had any adverse effects on Santana.
